As for Ford, GM and Chrysler I see it like this: Mountainous companies get match in the 70s that's laughable (Toyota, Honda etc). Then in the 80's those companies got their sh*t together and started construction superiority cars than USA Domestics. And for much less! So a twin whammy of "fetch" and "eminence" nailed Detroit / Dearborn amend in the nads. US custom didn't "shelter" US companies from imports. It right-minded opened the deluge gates!

So primitively, the price to establish a car in the US rose, opposite involved with legacy expenditure of unions, healtcare and such phoney Ford, GM and Chrysler into sardonic corners.
